Going through the disheartening experience of your home flooding is something no one wants to go through. But if this should happen to you and your family with the suitable resources and tips your home will be back to its previous condition in no time. Remember professionals can help rebuild your house from water damage and possessions can be salvaged. So don’t try to do it yourself, it’s not worth possible injury or catching an illness. So here are some steps to take if your home does become flooded and how you can take steps to return your home to its former glory.

Get to Safety

Depending on the severity of the flood and the damage to your house, you and your family should move to a hotel or a family members house. Not only because of the possibility of you and your families health being affected but also structurally the house could be weakened. No possession is worth the safety or health of your family, and hopefully, you have the right insurance so you can recover the things you can salvage.

Contact Us Before Your Insurance Company

After the flood waters have subsided go back to your house and take photos of the flood damage and get in contact with us. You will be given a contract for our flood restoration service. Once begun, your insurance company will be contacted by us after we start the restoration process. Then you will be provided with the written and signed contract because for a flood there is a 48-hour window, once something is wet for that amount of time it’s most likely contaminated with mold growth, so we need to get in there as soon as possible. Also, make sure to take photos to show the extent of the damage. Then you should be able to confer with your agent about how much of the devastation can be covered.

Protect Your Health

Even if it’s been a couple of days after the and the water has receded from your house, your health can still be affected. No doubt that mold is beginning to grow and the outbreak of mildew is dawning in your home. Also, the air quality in your house is disgusting, and it is imperative that you protect your lungs. If you go to your house to gather your things, it’s recommended that you don’t pick up your items because they need to be dried out or decontaminated by professional remediators. If you don’t take this step, you run the risk of polluting the new space you’re taking your belongings to with mildew or mold. If you don’t take the correct precautions, some of the health risks you could get are asthma and possible allergic reactions to the mold or mildew.
